Here's another favorite letterpress job of mine from 2010. This year, I'm only offering letterpress for custom wedding invitations. There's an array of eco-friendly paper choices too that the print shop offers!

The new sign I designed went up outside my favorite yoga studio in town--Ananda Shanti Yoga.

I love the simple elegance of this one! "40@21" was printed in a gold foil and the rest of the invitation was printed by letterpress on Crane's Lettra, ecru color paper.

"Everyone looks good in green"

Green Cards

I was excited to start working with a new printer on the West Coast this month who has a HUGE selection of RECYCLED paper options. It's perfect timing for all the brides that want to have a GREEN wedding. The other paper product that I've been purchasing a lot of lately comes from the greenpapercompany. Their website kindly reminds us that "every ton of 100% post-consumer recycled paper used SAVES 24 trees, enough oxygen for 12 people for 1 year, 10,325 gallons of water--enough for 875 five minute showers...."

With March comes new business cards for a local business, postcards, thank-you note baby cards and more save-the-dates (it's getting to be that time)! Perhaps a new color for my home office studio too. I can't wait for Spring and all the great things ahead! In the meantime, check out a few of my new designs from February.

Save the Date

Rita & Brice are getting married in June and wanted a small, almost postcard-like Save the Date. They wanted to use a picture of the wedding site. Two more Save-the-Dates at the printer!

I was very happy to hear that my 2010 Charlestown calendar's were a hot item this Christmas at Olivia Browning's store in Charlestown! I am now working on a line of colorful postcards using those same images. Abby has great gifts in her store, you should really check it out. Especially if you are a bride that may want to register for some nice items!

Baby Shower Invitations

The sex of the baby isn't known yet, so I decided to go with colors that seemed more unisex. I chose a fun child-like font to match the playfulness of the whales. The card says, "Come splash Anne with love and best wishes" to play upon the whale theme. The red hearts are just in time for Valentine's Day too.

More whales! The pink and green polka dotted whale design below also comes in a polka dotted pink lady bug and a polka dotted little piggy (colors vary). A Recipe for Holiday Cards: Don't Send the Same Design as Your Neighbor, Be Unique

My friend recently said to me, every Christmas I receive at least one of the same card designs that someone else just sent to me. These days, people tend to gravitate to the same online card companies which offer a limited number of design options. It’s the same robotic process--pick a design and plop your photo into it. Meanwhile, hundreds of other people may have just picked that same design as you. To guarantee that my friend’s holiday card was stylishly unique, she sent a custom card design by Kazi Creations.

My recipe for December’s designs was to chose colors, fonts, and pictures that captured the child’s style and personality. I presented each client with a few different options, then let them chose their favorite. If they liked certain elements from one design--like the fonts or illustrations-- but the colors in another then the design was tweaked to fit. The best part is when they dropped their card in the mail, they knew that no one would have the same holiday card design! I hope you enjoy checking out their final choices.

Emma

Emma's parents needed two different versions of the same design. One signed just “the Devines” for their business clients and one more personal one for close family and friends signed with “love Erin, Greg, and Emma”. I love this one because the polka dots, the shape, and colors are fun and HAPPY, just like their adorable daughter Emma!

Ellen

Well, I know this family well! My mother-in-law loves pink and green, and I’m pretty sure my father-in-law does too! I thought the starfish signature tied in the Cape (where the picture was taken) and Manchester by the Sea (where they live) perfectly.

Brynn

Brynn's parents wanted a classic design. Their pictures were taken by a professional photographer. These were the two photos I ended up using in the design. I thought the words “Joy” and "Hope” worked best with the expressions on Brynn's face. How cute is she?

Timothy

This one required erasing Kerry's (Timothy's mom) dress and hair out of the picture because I just wanted to show his handsome face and enlarge it. I replaced Kerry's hair and dress with water and more rocks on the right side. I love Photoshop! Blue and white pin stripes and a red sailboat seemed just right with Timothy's little sailor outfit. The original photo was taken by my own amazingly talented wedding photographer Joe Mikos.

Mr. & Mrs.

After spending a lot of hours on the computer in Photoshop, Illustrator & Indesign designing holiday cards, I decided to make our own card the old fashioned way--by hand! With a little holiday music, a glass of wine, and a lot of working space in my kitchen, I whipped up a recipe for us newlyweds--Mr. & Mrs. Harris. Making cards is much more fun for me than baking Christmas cookies!
